Festival Photos... were you there?

Okay, I'm uploading photos to Picasa right now so you can look, maybe even see if your own pretty face was caught by our cameras. Unfortunately, I have 1,099 I'm trying to upload now and there's even more photos on my kids' cameras to be uploaded. I can only upload 500 at a time, and it's a SLOW process (even with satellite), so it may be a while before they show up. But here's where you can go check out our 2009 season: http://picasaweb.google.com/trishgannon

I have a lot of albums, so you'll have to scroll until you get to Festival 2009... I'm going to try to break them into week one and week two (roughly), and then a third album with the leftover pictures.

Trish

More lost and found

Attention Schweitzer VIP we have your fleece vest.
Cora Goldblum, before you fly away, we have your black bag
Is anyone missing a flash drive that also plays music? Let me know what you have on there (to identify it) and we can arrange for you to pick it up. (NICE selection of music by the way)

Lost and Found (or kust abd fiybd if you have your fingers on the keyboard wrong)

Too bad my truck has tinted windows or you'd be able to see how jam packed it was when I left the Festival field last night.

Did you leave anything behind at the Festival? I might have it if you did. Currently, we have about 21 pairs of sunglasses/cheaters/glasses, about 16 umbrellas, several jackets, water bottles chairs, blankets and various other items.

Robin Frields, we have your library card and your driver's license
Gerred Campbell, we have your driver's license
Nathan Porter, we have your wallet

We have someone's single key for their car as well.

You can reach me at 266-1154 or 255-6957 if you've lost something and want to see if it was found. You can also email me at trish@riverjournal.com

Good Night Irene

Okay, I'll post more pictures to this blog, probably tomorrow, but wanted to leave you with one image as the Festival field comes down until next year... because our festival gals found a classy way to say it all. ;0)

sun now

I at home, heading to field, festival and family that I love so much.
See you all very soon ... david

3:15 on Clint Black night

Just over an hour to gates and the line (the regular line) is back to the restrooms in the park. Better head on down now!

Ready for Clint Black?

He's ready for us... you can see in this photo his crew getting all their equipment onto the festival stage this morning.

The lines were starting to get long at noon, and with two and a half hours to gate now, you might want to head on down to the field.

Cloudy skies (partly sunny if you're an optimist) and accuweather is showing a decreasing chance of any rain as the day goes by. It did get cold on the field last night, though, so make sure to bring something warm to put on if that happens again tonight!

And now it's time for me to head back to Sandpoint and get ready for tonight's adventure.

Rain is fun

From yesterday... even in the rain our festival volunteers have fun, as Gail Cameron shows in this picture

A grey day for Clint Black?

Heck no! There are many patches of blue in those grey skies and I have it on good authority that it's going to be a glorious day and evening, with no hint of the dampness that has plagued us the last few days.

Donavon, Donavon, Donavon. Wow, what a fantastic concert! Our only rain was at 5 pm and it lasted about 30 or 40 minutes, then went on its way. Damp and cold, but a beautiful night regardless. I have been told that our rain on Thursday, by the way, hit right about the time that Mr. Frankenreiter was crossing the Long Bridge, arriving in Sandpoint. Coincidence? Hmmm... we might just have to christen him "Rainmaker" (which is not actually a bad talent to have!). Still, the rain held off once again during the performances and a good time was had by all.

And now it's Clint Black's turn! I haven't yet been down to the field today, but I suspect the line has already started. Let's make tonight a sell-out folks! Run down to the Festival office (it's open today) and get your tickets.

by the way... Dick Stoltzman was on the field yesterday (the glorious clarinettist (sp?) who will be performing tomorrow night with the Spokane Symphony). It is nothing but a series of musical feasts this festival season!

Here comes the sun, do do do do!

Blue skies, smilin' at me! Nothing but blue skies, ON THE WAY!!!!!

3:15 on a so far clear Friday afternoon

Just a few sprinkles of rain so far... Accuweather is showing just touches of green in Bonner county, none of which appear to hit Sandpoint. Their prediction for the rest of the night is rain around 9 pm, which would be right in the middle of Donovan (shades of 2008!), so make sure to bring your umbrellas. I've got to tell ya, a rainy music night (as long as there's no lightning) makes for a great time on the Festival field!

I'll be heading down in 45 minutes or so to get pictures of our backstage hospitality crew, the group that keeps "the stars" fed and happy while they're here. They're a big part of the reason why groups are so willing to be booked into a venue as small as ours --- they know they're going to get first-class treatment!

So next post from the field... and let's hope our weather genie is keeping the storms away from the music one more time this season.

The merch booth

The merchandise booth took down everything they had already set up to ride the storm out.

George Rellis and his crew made sure to get the speakers covered quickly

A Shocking Night - Photos

Lucky for us the storm hit before gates opened, while Michelle Shocked was doing her sound check. It was a great introduction to Sandpoint for her!

In these pictures you see what it means to have a "working board" as Bob Boyle (co vice-president) and David Broughton try to clean the water out of the entryway.

Friday morning - Donovan night

For those of you not there, we got hit with a massive, ten-minute storm last night around 5 pm before gates open. We got some great pictures - they're all showing down at the field and i'll try to get some up here a bit later today. Good thing it wasn't Donovan's night or he would have never lived it down! The storm was fun for Gail Cameron and I... we're like little kids when it rains. I'm sure it wasn't quite as much fun for people like George Rellis, who was making sure his sound system made it through intact.

So a wet field when gates opened but a great night for all and it's looking like clear skies again today. Michelle Shocked seemed to be a love her or hate her concert... some people left not happy with her political commentary, which always surprises me. Why shouldn't a performer get to make political comments? We all make 'em ourselves, so I'm not sure why they should be held to a different standard. And it's not like there's anything WE can do about it in any case. Anyway, it was relatively few people who didn't like it, and the majority of folks left the field happy and dancing... when they finally left. Michelle signed CDs after her show and it looked like half the field stayed to take advantage of it.

Now to get ready for tonight - hopefully a much drier one!

See you at the field.

Thursday, August 13, 2009

Welcome back!! It's another week at the festival. We just got in to start setting up and we were told that the guitarist from The Fray was here looking to purchase a CD from Michelle Shocked.

3:35 @ memorial field

had a few sprinkles of rain, but the sun is starting to come out!!! The line is starting to get bigger.

Thursday at 2 pm

Still blue skies here in Clark Fork and I've loaded up the car, heading back in to the field. Passwords are all in hand so hopefully will post from the field with conditions there. Looks like it's going to be a beautiful night for some music.

Thursday at noon

David just got back from a trip to the field. He said the skies are a glorious blue, the pavement is drying up and the line has already started.

Michelle Shocked/Jonatha Brooke

7 am and it's raining here in Clark Fork. Accuweather tells me we can expect rain through about 1 pm, with clearing by 3 pm. That bodes for a nice festival night tonight, but bring a tarp to put your blanket on.

Yesterday's storm was a doozy when it roared through Sandpoint. Misty and Brian hit Memorial Field to check out the damage (not much) and got this shot of a rainbow over the tent.

Ticket sales are a bit slow for tonight's concert, which tells me locals haven't really heard Jonatha Brooke yet. They're going to be stunned when they do. Brooke fulfills that Festival promise in bringing the music you're going to love tomorrow to Memorial Field today.

See you on the field in just a few short hours.

Boz Scaggs

It's almost time for the big night. The line is all the way back to the tennis courts in the park right now. Grey skies that look like a storm but accuweather says no rain for us and clear skies by 7 pm. See you at the field!

The Festival Crowd is Incredible

Matt Keen opened the whole show tonight and was incredible. Despite guitar issues early on, Matt continued on a borrowed axe and played an incredible set. Over at the merchandise tent, there was a bevvy of young ladies waiting, quite impatiently, for him to come sign autographs. His performance warranted every bit of the attention. Check out mattkeenmusic.com for more information on this spectacular up-and-coming artist.

Later, as we reconciled the sales for Blues Traveler's merchandise tonight, their road manager of 18 years was quite impressed with the music sales. What that means, is that our underestimated little town is full of true music fans. There were twelve orders for cd copies of a live recording from tonight, which is more than double the typical order.

It was a very nice night and another great reminder of why Sandpoint is the greatest place on earth.

10 minutes to gate

and it's a hot crowd tonight. nice breeze, slightly overcast but still doesn't look like rain. a beautiful festival night

Blues Traveler afternoon

About 100 people in line right now and a beautiful, blue sky day.

Blues Traveler comin' up!

Okay, getting ready to head back to the field and will post more from there. Just to let you know there were probably 50 or 60 people in line this morning already... if you're coming, make sure you get your tickets right away!

Like last night, it's looking like any storms will avoid us... keep up good thoughts for the Festival's magic aura and we'll see you on the field in just a little while.

Pics from Poco/Firefall Night

Great crowd and the field went from not quite ready to ready for prime time (as it always does) without too many headaches. Now... on to tonight! (note how our Festival Board Prez, Paula Parsons, looks like a rock star up there on the Festival stage!)

Festival Opening Night

This isn't really David, it's Trish, but it's showing as David because one of our many "first night" glitches was my inability to remember my password for this blog so I could post something. Another glitch was the lightning, which made me shut down the laptop just in case - Barb Perusse (Mountain Communications) loaned me her laptop and aircard so we could do this and I didn't want to return the favor by breaking it.

I'll be back shortly to post photos from first night, but I'll say now... what a wonderful evening! The storms seemed to circle around us but never managed to get over our heads, making for a wonderful light show. Joel Smith was good, Firefall was super fantastic, and Poco was all right.

Tonight's show is approaching sold out and we're thinking it might do so (Boz Scaggs tomorrow night is also almost sold out) so you might not want to wait to get your tickets.

rain or not

yea, it does look like rain, but the tv guys showed it will give us some moisture, but looks like "most" of it will stay south of us, let's cross our fingers .... enjoy

Matt Keen on KPND at 9:30

ooohhhh... the weather outside doesn't look too special right now. I'll keep my fingers crossed and post later from the field with updates.

Heading in soon to meet Matt at the radio station where he's going to be on live with our own Johnny Knight. He'll be on air... sometime around 9:40? He's supposed to be there at 9:35. Then it's on to the field and all the final work to get ready for gates to open.

Festival Day 3 Wednesday

Yesterday (Day 3) was a long one. I started at 4:48 in the morning and hit the sack a little after midnight. Going to be just as busy today. Hope I don't sleep through Poco and Firefall tonight. In the pics from yesterday, the crew is making progress on the "details" that Dave mentioned. For field decoration, that meant the pond was finished, the entryway decorated, the bar set up and lit and more plants placed. On the production end, it was all about lights and sound, manhandling (and womanhandling) all that heavy equipment into place that results in a first-class stage.

Festival Day 2

By 5 pm (Tuesday) the field was starting to come to shape. As production manager Dave Nygren put it, "We're down to the details here at Memorial Field." Trees still need to be watered, of course, but many are placed. Wednesday will be the big day for Marla and Steve (Steve's explaining on the photo how something just can't be done the way we want it!) Going Green details are falling into place with the new signage and "clear-tainers" for recycling. The production crew took a well-earned break before beginning to paint the new stage floor under the tent, installed yesterday.

Festival Day 1

The music won't start 'til Thursday, but it's day 1 for the Festival crew! Hmm, I see when posting to this blog I have to upload the pictures opposite the order I want them to show! Oh well. The tent went up in record time (last picture), and booths began to be put together on the field (first picture). John Hastings and his kids helped bring down all the greenery that turns a football field into a glorious musical experience. (middle picture). And then my camera batteries died... I'm going to have to be more prepared before the Festival starts! (Note to Trish: find the rechargeable batteries.) But Brian got more pictures after for me, including one of the incredible water feature Idaho Stone is building for the entry. He'll post those a little later. As for now, I'm getting ready to head into town for the next round of pictures an errands.

Yea, it all begins

this should be a great year with the awesome line up. See you all there, TD

Volunteers Getting Ready

Some of the Festival's approximately 480 volunters gathered together at Lakeview Park on Thursday for hamburgers, hot dogs and camaraderie... and a photo.

Without all these volunteers, there's simply no way the Festival could do what it does.

Matt's MySpace

I published that last post a little too quickly... Meant to let you know that if you'd like to get a sneak peek (or listen) to Matt's music, you can check out his MySpace at www.myspace.com/matkeenmusic

Where's Matt Keen?

Sunday, August 2
Matt Keen, opening for JJ Grey & Mofro and Blues Traveler at the Festival at Sandpoint this week, flew in from Chicago a week early and I've been priveleged to "mother hen" him while he's here. On Thursday we hung around Sandpoint for a while and he stopped in at a few places to play, introduce people to his sound. The response was overwhelmingly positive - once you see and hear Matt, it's hard not to love him. I've included a photo of him playing for the crowd at Eichardt's.

Tomorrow our amazing production crew will be putting the tent up at Memorial Field and all our volunteers begin to get ready for opening night on Thursday. Check back foro pictures and updates!
